THE VALLEY OF THE SUN YMCA’S IMPACT IS FELT EVERY DAY ACROSS ARIZONA.
At the Y, strengthening our community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
Our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child, and when a community comes together for the common good. We help youth, adults, and families from all walks of life reach their goals and contribute to solutions that improve communities. We believe that goodness truly begins here at Valley of the Sun YMCA.
Achieving New Heights
The Y Achiever’s program is just one avenue that the Valley of the Sun YMCA helps youth and young adults get started in a direction of life they might not have ever thought possible.
Making sure that older adults get psychical activity is very important to allow their muscles to grow stronger and avoid serious conditions that deteriorate their health. At the Y, we are committed to promoted exercise among our older adults’ members to contribute to maintaining their health and wellbeing.
According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), November has been designated for Diabetes Awareness Month since 1975. At the Y, we are committed to improve our community’s health and well-being by offering support, guidance, resources, facilities and expertise. In 2019, we partnered with ASU to launch ¡Viva! Program in our Watts Family Maryvale YMCA.
Thanksgiving is a time to come together, celebrate community, and give thanks. During another season of giving at the Y, we continue to invite our members to support families who may not be able to afford a full Thanksgiving meal. Offering opportunities to give back to the community fills our members with a sense of pride and fulfillment. Tony, a two-time Leaders in Training participant and YMCA advocate, has claimed his biggest success is giving back to his community by participating in the Thanksgiving Basket Drive.
At the Y, we are for all. Jordyn Pope, Director of Childcare at Northwest Valley Family YMCA, makes stand to educate her students on diversity and inclusion stating, “You may not see them [disabilities], you may not understand them, you may not know it, but everyone is a human being, and everyone has something, whether it be a learning disability, they might have autism, they might have down syndrome, they might have PTSD.”
The Y is for all! When an opportunity arises to celebrate progress and to show our support, the Y is there. On Saturday, November 6th, 2021, we were part of the Phoenix Pride Parade organized by the City of Phoenix and their sponsors to showcase that we are proud allies to all!
The Y is for youth development and the potential of our youth. Childcare providers eagerly enter our facilities day in and day out to bring tips and program offerings that benefit the health and well-being of our youth so they can build a healthy mind, body, and spirit to realize their potential.
Every year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. It has been celebrated every year since 1989, and it celebrates and honors the cultures and contributions of both Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States of America.
Yoga has been used for centuries to practice self-control, self-awareness, and self-healing. The Y offers various Yoga classes to help you be your best.
