See below for when your local YMCA will have Produce on Wheels-With Out Waste

Roughly 40 percent of food grown, processed and transported in the United States is never consumed, and every year, Americans produce an estimated 70 billion pounds of food waste. With more than 48 million people across the nation facing food insecurity, there is a great deal that can be done to address this issue. The Borderlands Food Bank launched their Produce on Wheels – With Out Waste (P.O.W.W.O.W) program with this goal in mind. This summer, the organization plans to disperse fresh produce to local nonprofits, churches and schools, and they will be partnering with the Valley of the Sun YMCA to take excess food and provide it to the community at an affordable cost.

Beginning in June, the organization will be selling nutritional rescued produce at various Y locations throughout the Valley. The YMCA will need volunteers to help out with these events at the participating locations. If you’re interested in assisting us with this effort, contact your local branch.

Summer Distribution Schedule at the YMCA

The cost for produce will be $12 for up to 70lbs, and everyone is welcome to take part in these events for no additional fee. The Borderlands Food Bank and the YMCA request that you please share the produce with neighbors, friends, family, or someone who’s in need. If there is any produce left at the end of the day that’s inedible, it can be picked up for free and used as compost.
