As an adult, she wanted her children involved in the YMCA, but prior to registering her children for the Afterschool Program, she had not explored programs available to her or her family. With 5 children, ages 5-11, she had trouble finding a quality childcare program that could provide care and an opportunity for her children to be together in one location. When she learned that the Chris-Town YMCA offered afterschool care, she decided to get more information. She registered four of her five children in the Afterschool Program, including Jazmyn, age 11, Adrian, age 9, Andreas, age 8, and Javeya, age 7. Her youngest child, Jalyssa, age 5, attends school break camps with her siblings when her pre-school is not in session.

The Chris-Town YMCA offers afterschool care on all school days and full day camps on any day school is not in session, including three day weekends.

Lula’s children are often registered for these camp dates, allowing Ms. Randle to maintain her regular work schedule. She appreciates that these camp dates are available so that she does not have to take days off of work. The four children have quickly become part of the Chris-Town YMCA family, participating in youth sports and family events. Since joining the YMCA, Jazmyn has participated in competitive volleyball and Adrian and Andreas have participated in recreational basketball.

Lula enjoys opportunities to take some time for herself at the YMCA, including using the fitness center and participating in group fitness classes after work. She has also registered her children regularly for Parent’s Night Out, giving them an opportunity to stay late on Fridays to play with their friends and participate in group games, crafts, and activities lead by YMCA staff. Ms. Randle enjoys the warm, welcoming atmosphere provided by the Y. She feels it is truly a family environment where she feels safe bringing her children around caring adults who know and care about her family. Along with her children, she has developed a close relationship with the childcare staff, feeling confident that her children are in a positive environment, surrounded by positive role models every day after school. She considers it a blessing that she and her family have the opportunity to be a part of the Chris-Town YMCA.
