Cornfields, fishing, playing baseball or basketball is where you would find Dorm most days as a kid.

One summer during his junior year of high school, Dorm found a job at his local YMCA as a camp counselor.

It was a life-changing summer that sparked his passion for helping others and working in the area of youth development.

After high school, Dorm attended college in upstate New York. Each summer he worked at a summer college-prep program called Upward Bound at Marist College. This program allowed Dorm to build on the foundation of helping others that he started as a Y camp counselor. The Upward Bound program helped low-income/first-generation college-bound students to prepare to be successful in college.

After his own college graduation, Dorm worked full time as program coordinator for Upward Bound. In this position, he developed partnerships with school districts, community organizations, and local businesses to support the program.

During late fall 2012, Dorm and his family decided to relocate to Arizona after a trip here earlier that year. They settled in the West Valley, with Dorm getting a job working for the Maricopa Community College District. His wife, Toi, continues her teaching career in Arizona. Dorm currently works as a site manager for Paradise Valley Community College in the North Scottsdale/Cave Creek Area.

Dorm’s life principle is God, family, and community. He looks forward to serving on the board at the Desert Foothills Family YMCA. He is excited about the opportunities for developing a stronger partnership between the Y and the PVCC Black Mountain Campus.

With Dorm’s past YMCA experience, the Desert Foothills Family YMCA looks forward to his energy and passion being directed toward strengthening our community.
