“What I love about the Y is how family focused is it and how it involves the whole family.” Deanna and her family joined the Flagstaff YMCA six months ago when her sons wanted to play basketball.

“I also wanted the boys to be involved in an organized sports team for the social aspect as well,” Deanna says the basketball and soccer teams they have been a part of have gotten her sons to get along better and has been an opportunity for them to bond more. She also praises the YMCA coaches for being so positive and interactive with the kids. “They make effort to know every child’s name and really try to help the kids who are struggling, which means a lot.”

Deanna has also been able to coordinate with our Sports Director, Jon, to create a school basketball team for the Montessori School hosted at the YMCA gym, which all of her children have been able to be a part of. Having a place for the “Montessori Suns” to practice has allowed these elementary kids to be more involved in sports as well as character building.

When asked what stands out to her about the YMCA, Deanna responded, “the Y doesn’t turn anyone away for lack of financial ability which I think is great. They always find a way to include anyone who wants to be a part of the Y which can give all kids and families a safe haven.”

Thank you to Deanna and her family for their participation and contributions to the Flagstaff Family YMCA!
