PARENT-CHILD SWIM LESSONS (6-36 MONTHS OLD WITH PARENT IN WATER)
In this course Water is explored through developmentally appropriate games and songs. Children work on breath control, starting with expelling water and progressing to bubbles. Adults learn appropriate ways to hold your child, and support their development in and out of the water. Key points of CPR are also touched on in class. As students and their adults progress, children are introduced to leg and arm actions in the water, as well as different ways to safely exit and enter the water. Adults learn skills for teaching their child water safety, how to appropriately size a lifejacket for their child, and backyard pool safety. As children get older, they begin working more with the instructor so they are ready for group preschool swim lessons when they turn three.
PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS (3-5 YEARS OLD)
This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. It is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety, proper use of IFDs and PFDs, and comfort with holding their face in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming.
This level is for children who are comfortable in the water, including blowing bubbles with their face in the water. They are taught to kick, float, and perform the progressive crawl stroke. They also learn basic boating safety and use of PFDs. Children can swim 15 feet without assistance at the end of this level. Ray Children at this level work on refining front, back an
More advanced level for the child who can swim on their front, back, and side for 25 yards with floatation device and 15 feet without. Em-phasis is placed on endurance, front and backstroke, modified breaststroke and elementary backstroke. side strokes with face in and breathing. Breaststroke is also introduced along with more advanced water safety skills. Children can swim 20 feet without assistance by the end of this level. Starfish Children continue to refine their strokes including front crawl with side breathing, elementary backstroke with glide, back crawl with straight arms, breaststroke with glide, and sidestroke. They also learn underwater swimming skills. Children can swim 40 feet without assistance at the end of this level.
SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS (6-12 YEARS OLD)
This is the beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, com-fortable in the water, introduces the use of floatation devices, and floating. By the end of this level they are introduced to front crawl stroke, side and backstroke. Children have more confi-dence by the end of this level and should feel comfortable blowing bubbles with their face in the water.
Children in this level are able to swim at least 20 feet on front, back, and side. They continue to work on developing front crawl, sidestroke and backstroke. They are introduced to the breast-stroke, and elementary backstroke. Children can swim a length of the pool without assistance at the end of this level.
For children able to swim independently for a distance of 25 yards with the following strokes: front crawl with side breathing, basic elementary backstroke, back crawl with straight arms, and rudimentary sidestroke and breaststroke. Water safety skills are also emphasized, along with water polo sportsmanship, boating safety, and rescue skills.
In this level, students swim full laps of the strokes learned so far. Stroke mechanics are refined for a more efficient stroke. Students will build endurance as they work on swimming 4 lengths of breaststroke, front crawl stroke and backstroke continuously. Students are challenged to swim one length of butterfly. This class is ideal for those preparing for swim team or just looking to become a effective swimmer for fitness or fun.
Private & Semi-Private Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons are for all ages and abilities. Use them to in lieu group lessons, or to sup-plement group lessons by honing in on specific skills. Private lessons are scheduled around you to best meet your needs. Semi-Private lessons are for 2 children of similar swimming ability to get a low instructor to student ratio.
