One Step Beyond, Inc. is a group that enjoys coming to the Y every day! One Step Beyond provides empowering programs and services to individuals who have Intellectual Disabilities and their families.

Justin Larsen is a student at the YMCA. The first time he came to the YMCA was about 16 months ago. He and his mom were looking into different schools for Justin, and Student Choice High School is located in the Northwest Valley YMCA.

Julie and her family moved to El Mirage prior to the YMCA being built in 2014. They Joined the YMCA shortly after the Northwest Valley YMCA opened its doors and have been members ever since.

Member Spotlight: I first started coming to the Y because of its location. It was right by my home, and seemed like it would be my best option.

. Karen is a substitute high school teacher for the Buckeye school district. In her free time she enjoys swimming laps, working out at the YMCA, and volunteering to teach people to read through the Department of Labor.

Member Spotlight: I have some friends that worked at the YMCA and they thought I should apply at the YMCA. I applied at the YMCA in Glendale and got hired.

When we arrived in El Mirage several years ago, Cindy was searching for activities we could accomplish as a family, looking to enhance our spiritual health. Although, we knew keeping our family fit was a high priority if we were to continue using our God given abilities.

Patrick Larrabee is an advisory board member here at the Northwest Valley Family YMCA, but that’s not where his Y story started.
