Come hang out at the YMCA … with a purpose!
This fun program is made to develop youth as leaders and foster a culture of service. It will provide teens with knowledge and training that will help them to better serve others and to shape a healthy lifestyle themselves. This program is specifically designed for teens (ages 12 to 18).
LEADERS’ CLUB – We sat down with Elijah Barnes, an intern with the Y from AmeriCorps Public Allies program to tell us about his experience in working in the teen program.
o Q: What does Leaders’ Club mean to you?
o A: To me, Leaders’ Club means helping our youth open up about how they feel about themselves and their community, and how they can use that to help others.
o Q: What has been your favorite part about working in the Leaders’ Club program?
o A: I have really enjoyed just spending time with them in our club meetings and community events. We share some common hobbies, like basketball, which allows us to be active and share in our joy of the sport.
o Q: What can you do to get more teens involved with the Leaders’ Club program?
o A: We encourage the teens to talk to their friends and bring them to a club meeting. I would like for us to get more flyers out into the schools to talk to teens about this program for the new school year
