“We are thrilled to have Ryan join our metro board,” said Valley of the Sun YMCA President and CEO Bryan Madden. “His business acumen and construction-industry experience will be major assets as we strategize how best to continue serving Arizona communities through our 16 branch facilities and Camp Sky-Y.”

Abbott has 20 years of experience in the construction industry and has been with Sundt for 17 years. He is a modern construction leader and national lecturer and educator on alternative project delivery methods. He has been published locally and nationally in industry-leading periodicals.

His talent for understanding complex, highly technical large-scale projects has been demonstrated on jobs that have collectively netted 25 awards for construction excellence. Abbott was named one of Building Design + Construction’s 40 Under 40 in 2012 and Engineering News-Record’s Top 20 Under 40 in 2011.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and an MBA from Arizona State University, along with several professional certifications.

“I’m a steward of a 128-year legacy of taking responsibility for our community and its prosperity,” said Abbott. “Within Sundt Construction’s walls, we provide an opportunity for advancing one’s life circumstance by engaging every single employee in ownership of our company. Outside our walls, we build environments that allow our clients and communities to prosper. Joining the Valley of the Sun YMCA board is very personal to me; it’s an opportunity for me to connect my life’s work back to our community.”

The Valley of the Sun YMCA was established in 1892, before Arizona became a state. The Y serves local communities in Maricopa County, Pinal County, Yuma, Flagstaff and Prescott, offering more than 250 programs and 26 social services.

The YMCA aims to provide all members with the opportunity to reach farther and improve their lives and the lives of those around them. Through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y’s goal is to inspire positive and lasting social change.
