Safety Around Water Swim Lessons Recap

On May 1, we hosted our 3rd annual press conference at the Legacy Foundation Chris-Town YMCA to announce our continued commitment to water safety by offering 2,000 free swim lessons to non-swimmers.  It was a great honor to have Sheriff Penzone speak, along with community partners from Solano Elementary School, SRP, Drowning Prevention Collation of Arizona and the Phoenix Mayor’s Office.  Below is our organizational commitment!

Swim Lessons: Our Safety Around Water curriculum is geared to non-swimmers to teach them basic lifesaving skills.

  • Our goal was to provide free Safety Around Water lessons to 2,000 participants (up from 1,600 in 2018). We had a total of 2,009 participants!
  • We gave away $140,630 in free swim lessons.
  • Our amazing and passionate instructors taught 4,016 classes in two weeks!
  • We increased our water watcher tag distribution to 13,000 in English and Spanish (up from 10,000 in 2018).  We asked parents and community members to take the pledge and be a water watcher!
