Diana’s weight loss journey started years ago. When Diana Pechman moved to Arizona in 1987, she joined the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley Family YMCA and she has been a member for over 25 years.

She is a member of the Hiking Club and she has participated in several hikes locally and across the state of Arizona. Diana says that joining the club has allowed her to meet new friends and get to know more about her adopted state.

Adding workouts to speed up weight loss

Improving her health was a priority to Diana. Her work required traveling all over the country, and as a result of the heavy work schedule and managerial responsibilities, she gained weight. She decided to take action, and started eating healthier, and added more workouts at the Y.

She used the treadmill, attended muscle conditioning classes, and practiced yoga. She says she thinks she participated in almost every class the Y offered in the evenings and on Saturdays. Through her determination, she was able to lose approximately 40 pounds and she’s been able to keep most of it off.

Benefits other than weight loss

There are many aspects of wellness including physical, mental, and social. Through her involvement with the Y, Diana has experienced improvement not only in her physical health but has grown socially as well. She has met several friends at the Y and through them, she has met other people who have become her bowling and golf buddies.

She even met her significant other through this circle of friends that began at the Y! Diana’s story goes to show that the Y can enhance your life in many ways, and can help you become part of a larger community of friends.
