She had no family, she had no friends here, and she had a 10-month-old. Laura and her family just moved from the northeast so her summer was very different from what she was used to. Laura and family have been using both the Chandler/Gilbert Family YMCA and The Tempe Family YMCA, to get her daughter, Sloane, more socialization, and so she can focus on her health/wellness goals. Laura also works from home, so with her family membership, she uses the Amazing Kids Center, so she can get some work done, and schedules her meetings on the phone while AKC is open.

It’s been convenient for Laura, as she lives in between the Chandler/Gilbert Family YMCA and The Tempe Family YMCA. Each branch offers different classes on different days, so she can mix and match what class she would like to take!

The change to Arizona has been tough because you cannot be outside too long because it is so HOT! Her first day in Arizona, it was 112 degrees, and summer was far from over. Laura quickly realized that she needs to be indoors to meet her health/wellness goals. Laura was involved with her local Y back east, so she found one close to her new home. Laura feels like she has a safe, welcoming place to rely on whether it is while she is working, or working out! Laura plans an enrolling in swim lessons as soon as the pool opens back up in the spring! Her daughter absolutely can’t wait to go to the Amazing Kids Center. She particularly loves the crafts and the mini “ball pit”.

The Y has also been so helpful for Laura in meeting new friends for both herself and Sloane.

Working from home can be tough with an infant because you don’t get much face-to-face socialization with other adults. The Y has provided her that community.

One of her favorite communities is her group fitness community that she attends. The group fitness classes have given Laura the confidence back that she has been missing since her daughter was born. Both Laura’s social bucket and physical fitness bucket is being filled by The Y.
