“I grew up in Southern New Hampshire and moved to Arizona in 2005 to attend Arizona State University where I got my degree in Film Production. I’m currently a producer for a company out of Phoenix called True Story Films which keeps me very busy but I love it! I’ve got an amazing husband named Dave who is a physical education teacher for Mesa School Districts. Together, we joined the YMCA in 2013.

I’ve belonged to a lot of gyms. There isn’t a time in my life where I haven’t been trying to lose weight and get healthier. It’s an ongoing process and there is just something about running on a treadmill that really doesn’t excite me. I joined the YMCA because of the amenities but was especially drawn to the variety of classes they offer as well as all of the different locations. Since i’m a valley-wide member I can take advantage of any Y which often helps with my work schedule. I live in Tempe but work downtown so often times i’ll hit up the Lincoln/Downtown Y after work, or go to the Tempe Y early in the morning or later at night. The flexibility and options are what really drove me to become part of the YMCA family.

My favorite classes would have to be Zumba or Group Power. I’ve tried a bunch though— Cycle was a great workout, Centergy is awesome, Group Core made my mid-section sore for days!! I haven’t tried Group Fight but it’s on my list along with a few others. All of the instructors are great and bring something different to the table. I try to get to the Y at least 4x during the week and often use my weekends for hikes, golfing or other outdoor activities. I also play on a co-ed softball team which is a great workout!

There are always setbacks when jumping on board with a fitness routine (which yes, should really just be considered a lifestyle!!)…. work schedules can eat up your day, you get sick, you are tired, your body is sore…. but really when I think about it, there really aren’t too many times that I work out and I regret it after the fact. It always makes you feel better. I just need to remember that when I have my setbacks. One big setback I had was in the winter of 2014 and I got into a car accident leaving the Chandler YMCA. I got put out of commission for a while and the YMCA family was supportive and understood my disappearance. After some healing time and when my body felt right, I jumped back in and haven’t looked back.

I’ve been a member now for 3 years and I know that the Y will continue to help me reach my goals! #zoeforpresident”
