We have hired our seasonal team who are dedicated to being strong role models to your children. Our staff is extensively trained extensively in Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, and their ready to create a life-changing experience for our Members this summer. Our YMCA has exciting changes coming for June, including new Group Fitness Classes, Sports Clinics, and Recreational Swim Team.

Our Y is committed to expanding the offerings of our Summer Programs to meet your needs.

The newest Program our YMCA will be adding as we close summer and launch fall is Adventure Guides. The Adventure Guides program is an intentional father/child bonding program that creates memorable experiences for dads and their children to do, together. The Program includes activities such as a daddy/daughter dance, pinewood derby race, hiking at local parks and professional sporting experiences. Adventure Guides culminates in two major campouts at our very own Camp Sky Y. During our Sky Y Summer campouts, dads and their children will enjoy activities such as rock climbing, zip lining, paintball, archery, rope courses and so much more. Trust me, as a father myself, you will not want to miss out on this life-changing experience to bond with your child. And moms, this is a great way to send the children away with dad for the weekend and get some well-deserved alone or girlfriend time.

Speaking of fatherhood, Father’s Day is coming up on June 17. As we prepare to celebrate dads this Sunday, let’s take a look back at how it all got started. Did you know Father’s Day began at the YMCA? It was founded in Spokane, WA, at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, whose father, William Jackson Smart, had raised six children on his own.

After hearing a sermon about Mother’s Day, Dodd told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father’s birthday, the pastors did not have enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June.

In 1972, President Nixon recognized Father’s Day as an official holiday. Looking for a good way to spend some quality time with your dad this Father’s Day? How about a game of pickup basketball at the Y or a day spent at one of our sparkling pools? You could even give the gift of lifelong health and wellness through a Y membership or sessions with a personal trainer. No matter how you celebrate, the Y thanks and salutes all dads. You help make us who we are!

From Father to Father, Happy Father’s Day to all the great dads out there!
