In February, the Valley of the Sun YMCA officially kicked off its 2017 Annual Support Campaign to help provide YMCA membership and program assistance to children, families, and seniors who need it most.  In less than four months, the Annual Support Campaign is already celebrating a successful fundraising milestone, having exceeded its $1.4 million goal.

The theme of the campaign was “Be a Hero”- a celebration of community, impact, and volunteers that are heroes in our cities every day.

“We are tremendously grateful to our community of donors who came together to make an impact in such a short time help us meet and exceed the campaign goal,” said Bryan Madden, CEO of the Valley of the Sun YMCA. “We are particularly focused and dedicated to serving the communities that need our programs most and through the success of this campaign we can continue our mission.”With 16 branch locations spread throughout Arizona from Flagstaff to Yuma, the Valley of the Sun YMCA serves as a gathering place for each community it serves. It’s a safe-haven for kids to play and do homework after school, seniors to meet for group exercise, social activities and to connect, and where adults come to learn healthy lifestyle choices.

As one of the country’s longest-standing and leading nonprofits for strengthening not only individuals, but communities, gifts made to the Y will help advance programming and services that support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. More importantly, 100 percent of donations made will make a direct impact on the residents in our communities. The Annual Support Campaign raises funds for child care, community service opportunities, camp scholarships, memberships, program assistance like swim lessons, and teen leadership development — ensuring everyone has an opportunity to benefit from YMCA programs, regardless of their ability to pay.

“In addition to donations of time and support, we have also achieved 100 percent financial commitment from the Metro Board of Directors,” said John Graham, Chairman of the Valley of the Sun YMCA Metro Board of Directors. “I am pleased the board took a leadership role in helping to meet the goal of our campaign. Each member has made this organization a priority.  Without this level of commitment and support from each of our outstanding board members and community volunteers, this campaign simply would not be possible.”
