A new chapter in the history of this city’s youth center will begin when the YMCA takes over operation of the site, where it plans to maintain existing programs while adding ones it already offers in Yuma.
The YMCA will take on operation of the city’s James E. Kerley Youth Center from the Somerton Parks and Recreation Department in early February under an agreement recently approved by unanimous vote of the Somerton City Council.
“We are very excited to be able to be in Somerton. This is just the beginning of something big. YMCA is more than a gymnasium. We are the YMCA of Yuma but we don’t consider ourselves as only being part of the city of Yuma, but rather of the entire county.”
President of the YMCA’s Board of Director
