Our One Team One Child campaign helps us provide the necessary assistance so that no one is turned away for their inability to pay. All money donated goes to helping kids get into Y youth sports. This 2021 campaign was a huge success for the Northwest Valley Family YMCA! We raised over $2,500 and hope to keep growing that number throughout the year. These funds will help nearly 50 kids and help them learn healthy habits.
Competition Drives Success
A huge reason for our success is the competitiveness of our coaches and players. The person who raised the most money would receive a pizza party. If you know one thing about kids, you know they love free pizza. The team that went above and beyond was our 4th-6th grade youth volleyball team. When the first standings came out of which team had the most donations, they were in 5th place. Coach Elder then was on a mission to make it his mission to change that. He reached out to his parents, friends, and family. The donations then flooded in. In less than an hour, they received $300! This late push helped them capture the title and won them a pizza party! In total, they received $395 and demolished their goal of $250!
A Local Celebrity
Another reason for our success came from social media. Chevin Noone (youth sports director) reached out to Zane Gonzales on Twitter about being a donor. Zane (previous kicker of the Arizona Cardinals) accepted the challenge of donating to this cause. He provided a generous donation to help out a youth basketball and youth volleyball team. Chevin also created this video to help spread the word on this incredible cause. This played a huge role in surpassing our $1,000 goal.
