I looked up local Zumba classes and none of them offered childcare-except the YMCA. Therefore, I decided to join. Little did I know that my local Y would become my second home.

At 230lbs, I was morbidly obese. Doing Zumba at first was difficult; having two, left feet did not help either. However, not once did I ever feel out of place at the Y. The Zumba instructor was great and would often check in on the class. The class participants ranged from ages 16-76. The fitness levels varied as well. I went to Zumba 5x a week and even began to warm up on the treadmill before class.

I found that at the Y the staff was incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive.

The childcare staff was very good with my son. He looked forward to his time at the Y as much as I did. This gave me extreme peace of mind. I would enjoy my group exercise class without having to worry about the safety or care of my son.

With this support, we became regulars. After 7 months of attending the group exercise classes, I lost 60lbs at the Y! I was a new person. I loved being in gym clothes and showing up to the Y ready to dance or ready to attempt to beat my mile record from the previous day.

Fast forward 3 years later and I found myself back in my hometown. One of the first things I did was look up my local Y. I found out quickly that the customer service was just as great as the previous Y I was a part of. I love the Yuma Family YMCA because it has great workout machines, fun group classes, knowledgeable personal trainers, and it is conveniently located in our community! I now have my family and friends going to the Y!

My sister and her husband and their two kids became members shortly after I invited them to attend with a guest pass. It is not uncommon for my best friends and me to meet up at the Y for a Zumba class. Friends that sweat together, stay together right? Most recently during my pregnancy, I chose to exercise on the treadmills at the Y to stay active. This allowed me to work out anytime during the day without having to worry about heat exhaustion-it’s no fun being pregnant in the summer! Thankfully, the Y has the amenities to make working out any time of day possible.

I would recommend the Yuma Family YMCA to anyone who wants to work out in a friendly environment. The Y is all about inclusiveness and positivity. From the staff at the front to the cleaning crew to the personal trainers, everyone makes you feel welcome. As you start your fitness journey, I encourage you to check out the Y. One class at a time you will reach your fitness goals!
