About Your YMCA

About Our History

Established in 1892, and before Arizona became a state, the Valley of the Sun YMCA is one of the oldest and largest nonprofits in the state of Arizona.

About Our Mission

The YMCA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is about Christian principles put into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

About Our Cause

To fulfill our purpose of strengthening community for all, the Y is committed to being an inclusive organization and leveraging our collective impact to address social inequities. The Y is made up of people of all ages, from all walks of life, who are working side-by-side to strengthen communities.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Commitment

The Valley of the Sun YMCA creates opportunity for all to achieve their potential. We aspire to be a center of collaboration within our communities focused on equitable access, resolving inequities, and institutional barriers. The Valley of the Sun YMCA works to ensure everyone feels welcome; inspiring and promoting diversity, inclusion and equity for all.

Land Acknowledgement

The Valley of the Sun YMCA is located on the ancestorial lands of indigenous first peoples; past, present, and future. We respectfully acknowledge Arizona’s twenty-two Native Nations that have inhabited this land for centuries. Our programs and branches occupy ancestral territories of Indigenous peoples, including the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Piipaash (Maricopa) Indian Communities, in the Salt River Valley; the Hopi Indian Community in Northern Arizona; and the Yavapai-Apache Indian Community in Prescott Arizona, whose care and keeping of these lands allows us to be here today.

Committed to diversity and inclusion, the YMCA strives to build sustainable relationships with sovereign Native Nations and Indigenous communities. The Valley of the Sun YMCA welcomes members of all Native nations to our YMCA locations and programming.

About Our Impact

The Valley of the Sun YMCA touches the lives of individuals and families through programs, activities, events, and mission outreach. More than 1,000,000 people walk through our doors each year seeking a community to call home, and opportunities to build a brighter tomorrow.
