Swim Team

At the YMCA, our swim teams provide opportunities for swimmers of all ages and skill levels to grow, have fun, and reach their full potential in the pool. From our entry-level Recreational Swim Team to the advanced Silver Fins Swim and Dive Teams, participants develop strong swimming technique, build endurance, and experience the excitement of teamwork, personal achievement, and competition. Our programs focus on skill development, confidence, sportsmanship, and a love for swimming, while offering optional swim meets, social events, and structured practice sessions to help each athlete thrive both in and out of the water.

YMCA Swim Teams

The Recreational Swim Team provides entry-level swim team experience designed for young swimmers looking to explore competitive swimming fundamentals in a fun, supportive environment. This track educates participants on stroke development, proper swimming techniques, and age-appropriate conditioning without emphasizing competition or strict time commitments. It is ideal for swimmers who have recently completed the YMCA swim lesson program and are seeking a swim club that balances skill-building with enjoyment in the pool. Optional swim meets, team events, and social activities are also offered to give swimmers a taste of the broader competitive swim environment. Participants must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle confidently. This program helps build swimming endurance, teamwork, and a lifelong love for the sport of swimming.

The YMCA Silver Fins Swim Team follows a comprehensive philosophy of teaching and training that emphasizes long-term swimmer development and peak performance both in and out of the pool. Participants are divided into eight distinct groups, determined by factors such as age, ability, maturity, performance, and attitude, ensuring that each swimmer receives age- and skill-appropriate coaching. The cornerstone of our coaching philosophy focuses on building a strong foundation of stroke technique, race strategies, and a love for competitive swimming, supported by a solid aerobic training base. Our program also prioritizes the development of essential life skills, including leadership, accountability, self-discipline, time management, sportsmanship, and goal setting, helping young athletes thrive both as swimmers and as individuals. Through regular swim practices, technique drills, and participation in swim meets, Silver Fins athletes gain the confidence, endurance, and competitive mindset necessary for success in the pool and beyond.

LEARN ABOUT THE SWIM TEAM

Designed for competitive divers, the YMCA Silver Fins Dive Team is for athletes ages 8 through 18 who have mastered basic swimming skills through our Mighty Mahi Summer program or comparable training. This program helps participants develop advanced diving techniques, high-performance swimming skills, and the confidence to compete at local, national, and international levels. Athletes receive coaching to prepare for high school and collegiate diving opportunities, focusing on proper technique, strength, and conditioning.

Through structured practice sessions and skill-building drills, divers improve their technical foundation, discipline, and mental focus. The program emphasizes sportsmanship, goal-setting, and teamwork, creating a supportive environment where athletes grow both in and out of the pool. Optional meets and competitions give divers the chance to experience racing, track progress, and develop a lifelong love for the sport.
