Teen Programs That Help Build Confidence and Real-World Skills
Youth and Government for teens ready to lead and speak up
Our Youth and Government program gives teenagers the chance to explore leadership through hands-on experiential learning. For more than 75 years, Youth and Government has helped young people across Arizona better understand how civic action can create change in their communities. Through this semester-long experience, participants learn about legislative and judicial processes while building confidence in their ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and engage with the world around them.
Throughout the program, teens take part in experiential virtual meetings that introduce topics such as parliamentary procedure, political parties, media, voting, bill writing, and debate policy. These lessons help make complex systems more approachable while giving students practical ways to develop leadership, public speaking, and collaboration skills.
As part of our broader teen programs, Youth and Government is a strong fit for teenagers who want meaningful involvement, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of how to make an impact. It is one of the many teen opportunities we offer to help young people grow into informed, engaged leaders.

Our Teens In Leadership Training program, also known as TILT, is designed to help teens build leadership skills in a way that feels active, engaging, and relevant. Through hands-on sessions, teenagers can gain work experience, earn volunteer hours, and grow in confidence while taking part in a fun, teen-focused environment.
TILT is offered through weekly meetings built around an engaging curriculum, as well as a week-long fall break camp that ends with a field trip. This gives teens more than one way to get involved depending on what works best for them and their interests. The program supports personal development while also helping them strengthen responsibility, teamwork, and communication skills that can serve them well in school, future jobs, and everyday life.
As part of our YMCA teen programs, TILT gives young people a place to learn by doing. It is a great example of how our programs for teens go beyond simple participation and focus on helping teens lead, contribute, and build real-world skills in a supportive setting.

Our Teen Transportation program gives teenagers a safe, supervised place to go after the school day ends. Your teens are picked up directly from school and brought to the Y, where they can relax, connect with others, and take part in age-appropriate activities in a supportive environment.
This program is about more than transportation. It helps create structure, connection, and a sense of belonging during an important part of the day. Once at the Y, they can unwind while participating in activities that support social connection, leadership, and personal growth. That combination of supervision and engagement makes this one of our most valuable teen opportunities for families looking for a positive place for teens to spend time after school.
Within our larger teen development programs, Teen Transportation reflects our focus on helping young people grow in ways that feel practical and encouraging. It supports connection, confidence, and community while giving teens a space where they can feel welcomed and involved.

Teen programs that support workforce development and future goals
We also offer programs for teens and young adults who are ready to explore future career paths through youth development and early learning. Our Childcare Workforce Development program provides education and career workforce services in Youth Development for young adults ages 16 through 24. Through this experience, participants can learn within a YMCA childcare program and begin building a pathway toward a career in Youth Development.
Our Early Learning Educator Apprenticeship Program is a registered apprenticeship through the State of Arizona in Early Learning. The program lasts one year and includes 2,000 on-the-job learning hours in one of our programs, along with 144 hours of related instruction. It is available to ages 16 and up, and the related instruction includes a virtual pathway toward obtaining a Child Development Accreditation, or CDA.
Together, these teen enrichment programs give participants the chance to build job experience, learn in real environments, and take meaningful steps toward future opportunities.
